A round-up of the week’s football transfer rumours

Joe Rodon might be leaving for Italy after failing to break through at Tottenham last season. The director of football at Spurs, Fabio Paratici, is said to have spent Thursday in Milan meeting with other teams. Tottenham wants to trade for Roma midfielder Nicol Zaniolo, and they might give up Rodon in the process. The manager of Roma, José Mourinho, who brought the Wales international to Spurs from Swansea City and is searching for a center-back, is a fan of the player.

Tottenham hopes the prospect of seeing their countryman Antonio Conte yell at him from the sidelines will make Zaniolo change his mind about leaving Italy, where Milan and Juventus are interested in hiring him. Bryan Gil, a Spanish winger who spent the second half of the previous season at Valencia, is also expected to be loaned out to Sampdoria by Spurs. Marseille has also expressed interest in loaning out Gil, and Nuno Tavares of Arsenal is also being eyed by Marseille.

If Paul Pogba is going to continue to annoy Graeme Souness on a regular basis, he will have to switch from Sky Sports to rival BT Sport. Fabrizio Romano claims that the much-rumored return of the French midfielder to Juventus on a free transfer after six years at Manchester United is finalized. However, the deal won’t be sealed until after Pogba’s United contract expires at the end of this month and his new contract is signed at the start of July.

Manchester United is still hoping to get Brazilian winger Antony from Ajax, and there are rumors that the player’s agents are pressuring the Dutch champions to let the player go to Chelsea or Old Trafford. He has three years left on his deal, so he probably won’t be cheap. Reports from Portugal suggest Cristiano Ronaldo is spitting feathers over United’s lack of progress in the transfer window and may flounce out of the club in protest if he doesn’t see a few new faces when he returns for pre-season preening on the training field. This information may or may not be true, but it comes as no great surprise regardless.

Adrien Rabiot, a stalwart of the rumor mill, is reportedly interested in leaving Juventus and, as is traditional, has been connected to a number of elite Premier League teams. Available for £15m, the player himself is understood to fancy a move to Liverpool, while Chelsea and Arsenal have also been mooted as potential destinations. Newcastle United is rumored to have showed anything approaching firm interest in signing the 27-year-old French midfielder. Newcastle United just acquired goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley for an undisclosed sum.

If claims that the “people” of the Aston Villa midfielder are in talks with the Serie A champions are to be believed, Douglas Luiz may soon be on his way to Milan. Having made it clear he wishes to leave Villa Park, the 24-year-old Brazilian is also being courted by Roma but the Giallorossi bean-counters think the £30m fee Villa are demanding is way too high.

A number of newspaper back pages indicate that an announcement may soon be made on Arsenal’s continued efforts to convince Gabriel Jesus to go from Manchester City to the Emirates. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s interim director of football Todd Boehly is similarly hell-bent on signing Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus in order to prove he means business in his new role.
