Arsenal’s refusal to buy a right-back this summer has been highlighted by the news that Tottenham has completed a deal to sign Djed Spence. Despite their interest in Spence, the Gunners are reported to be satisfied with their alternatives on the right side of defence.

According to the Guardian, Tottenham will pay roughly £20 million for the Middlesbrough striker, adding to the additions of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster. Spence had a fantastic loan season at Nottingham Forest, helping the club return to the Premier League for the first time in a century. When Forest knocked Mikel Arteta’s team out of the FA Cup third round in January, Spence drew Arsenal’s notice. The Gunners were linked with a deal for England’s under-21 international almost immediately. Spurs, Tottenham’s north London rivals, have won the hunt for his signing. Arsenal, on the other hand, had already decided not to sign a right-back this summer. Tottenham and Djed Spence have ‘agreed a £20 million deal’ for the defender, who has turned down a return to Forest.

Mikel Arteta has permitted Tottenham to sign Djed Spence, according to Arsenal transfer news.

That might be a dangerous decision. Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares are the two right-backs in Arteta’s squad. The Spaniard is confident in his ability to cover four competitions in that position next season. Tomiyasu, on the other hand, was forced to miss much of his first season in England owing to injury. The Japan international quickly became a fan favorite among Arsenal supporters, but calf injuries have plagued him in 2022. He attempted to return on a number of occasions before finally being named in a starting XI for the first time in three-and-a-half months on May 1. However, he was unable to see out the rest of the season and went off injured in the dire 2-0 loss at Newcastle two games later. Cedric did a good job filling in at times, but he was exposed a few times as the campaign progressed. DON’T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!
