According to reports, Frenkie de Jong is very upset with Barcelona’s treatment of him and is willing to speak out against the club once his future is resolved. Manchester United are confident they will sign the 25-year-old midfielder after months of pursuing him. And it appears that a move to Old Trafford is getting closer, despite several roadblocks. Manchester United is willing to pay close to £72 million in total to make De Jong their summer statement signing. That makes him the fifth most expensive signing in the club’s history, trailing only Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire, Romelu Lukaku, and Jadon Sancho. And Sport provided an update on De Jong on Monday, as speculation about the 25-year-future old’s continues. Barcelona’s attempts to meet with the player’s entourage are said to be thwarted for the time being. They are aware, however, that De Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, is in negotiations with both United and Chelsea. Manchester United transfers: Man United have a De Jong swap deal in the works that could change everything. United also want Adrien Rabiot regardless of what happens with De Jong. Up top, Alvaro Morata and Jamie Vardy have emerged as targets as the Red Devils look for someone to compete with Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial. Meanwhile, in regards to De Jong, United legend Gary Neville recently stated that his old club had a lot ‘riding on’ a deal for the Barcelona star. “There’s a lot riding on that De Jong deal,” Neville said. “On the whole. Not only for the team, but also for the club, the new operation, in order to close a deal. “There are three possibilities. One is that they get him; they appear smart, patient, and as if they waited their turn and got the deal they desired. Man United fixtures: When does Erik ten Hag’s team play each Premier League team? “Alternatively, he could remain in Barcelona.” Which, given the manager’s relationship with the player, I believe could be slightly embarrassing.” Or, in the worst-case scenario, he doesn’t just leave Barcelona; he moves to Chelsea, a Premier League rival. “That would be a disaster for United’s recruitment department.” That, I believe, will cause issues in the coming weeks.” De Jong could become United’s sixth La Liga signing since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. In recent years, Ander Herrera, Victor Valdes, Angel Di Maria, Eric Bailly, and Raphael Varane have all moved on. Do you want the most recent football news?
