Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge

Chelsea and Barcelona are the two teams grabbing all of the attention in this transfer window. They are not only competing for the same player, but they have also been linked to players from opposing teams. Barcelona is still interested in a couple of more Blues despite Christensen’s move to the Catalan capital. Cesar Azpilicueta, Chelsea’s captain, is one notable name.
After joining Chelsea in 2012, Azpilicueta is the club’s current longest-serving player. Since then, he has been an integral part of Chelsea’s every success, winning every conceivable trophy with the club. Azpilicueta has recently been second fiddle to young Reece James for the right wing-back/right-back role, and was frequently switched with Christensen and Chalobah at the right side of back 3. This has created opportunities for an exit, with Barcelona looking for the best suitors.

Azpi is one of the most versatile players in the backline, as the Spaniard can play in any position. He can play on either side of the defense, but he has mostly played on the right. Cesar Azpilicueta can be very beneficial at the right center-back position with Xavi’s fluid system of a back 3 formation with the ball. He has had tremendous success in this role, winning the Champions League under Tuchel and the Premier League under Antonio Conte. Azpilicueta, who is still 32 years old, has the potential to have a good season for Catalonia.
Azpilicueta has earned a spot in the National Team after gaining Luis Enrique’s trust, and he now looks forward to the World Cup. A return to Spain will undoubtedly help the cause, as Xavi can guarantee the full-back regular playing time, something that is not guaranteed at Chelsea right now, with Tuchel looking for specialized center-backs. With Dani Alves’ departure, Xavi will also be looking for an experienced campaigner in the squad. As a key member of Chelsea’s leadership group for some time, current captain Eden Hazard could be the ideal candidate.
The move is heavily reliant on the Jules Kounde deal, with both Barcelona and Chelsea bidding for the French center-back. Kounde’s move to London may serve as a catalyst for Azpilicueta’s move, but if Kounde decides to stay, Chelsea will do everything in their power to keep one of their most valuable assets in recent memory.
