Chelsea Women have signed five-time Champions League winner Kadeisha Buchanan from Lyon on a three-year deal

Kadeisha Buchanan, a five-time Champions League winner, has joined Chelsea Women on a three-year agreement from Lyon.

On Friday morning, the Canada centre-back was introduced as a Chelsea player, and it was also confirmed that she will wear the No. 26 shirt for the first time since men’s captain John Terry departed the club in 2017.

Buchanan is the club’s second acquisition since Todd Boehly’s group took control of the club, following the signing of France right-back Eve Perisset earlier this week.

Buchanan won 13 championships during her five-and-a-half years with Lyon, including eight domestic crowns and five Champions Leagues, the most recent of which came in last month’s final victory over Barcelona.

As she joins Women’s Super League champions Chelsea, the 26-year-old will be hoping to add to her significant title haul.

“I’m coming to Chelsea with the same goal in mind that I’ve always had: to win trophies and be the greatest in the world,” she said. The team has everything in place to compete in every competition, and now is the moment to bring a champions league trophy to London.

“I’m aiming to offer my experience to the team and maintain the club’s good trajectory from previous seasons.” I’m looking forward to embarking on this journey with my new teammates and the coaching staff.”

“Kadeisha is a serial winner at the top of her game,” Chelsea manager Emma Hayes said. “I have no doubt we are signing a world-class athlete who has proven herself on the world stage.”

“She will add to the quality of our group, and we believe she will be well-liked in the dressing room due to her bright personality and character.” This summer, we are looking forward to meeting Kadeisha.”

Chelsea has signed Perisset.

Since the Todd Boehly-led consortium completed its ownership of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich last month, Perisset became the first player to sign for the club’s men’s and women’s teams.

The Blues had been unable to sign new players – or renew the contracts of current ones – since March due to UK Government sanctions placed on Russian-Israeli billionaire Abramovich in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

On July 1, Perisset, who will wear the number 15 shirt at Kingsmeadow, will become a Chelsea player.

She told Chelsea’s website: “It’s a fantastic honour to join Chelsea and to be the first French female player to become a blue! I am grateful for the chance that has been provided to me.

Emma Hayes is the manager of the Chelsea Women’s team.

“The time was right for me to make this big move to London and join the English Super League and I cannot wait to meet the team and the fans later this summer at Kingsmeadow and at the famous Stamford Bridge!”

Hayes added: “Eve brings a wealth of experience and is a versatile player who is able to play in both full-back positions and midfield.

“A tenacious defender, with her mentality and professionalism we have no doubt she will complement the group well. We really look forward to welcoming Eve to the team later this summer as we head into the new season.”
