Chelsea Women have signed France international defender Eve Perisset from Bordeaux on a three-year deal

Eve Perisset, a France international defender, has joined Chelsea Women on a three-year agreement from Bordeaux.

Since the Todd Boehly-led consortium completed its ownership of Chelsea from Roman Abramovich last month, Perisset is the first player to sign for either the men’s or women’s teams.

Due to UK Government sanctions imposed on Russian-Israeli billionaire Abramovich in the aftermath of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Blues have been unable to sign new players – or renew the contracts of current ones – since March.

On July 1, Perisset, who will wear the number 15 shirt at Kingsmeadow, will become a Chelsea player.

According to Chelsea’s website, she said: “It’s an incredible honor to join Chelsea and be the first female French player to do so! I am grateful for the chance that has been provided to me.

“It was the ideal time for me to make this major move to London and join the English Super League, and I can’t wait to meet the club and the supporters at Kingsmeadow and Stamford Bridge later this summer!”

Emma Hayes, Chelsea Women’s manager, added: “Eve brings a wealth of experience to the team and is a flexible player who can play fullback and midfield.

“With her mentality and professionalism, we have no doubt she will be a valuable addition to the company. As we prepare for the new season, we are excited to welcome Eve to the team later this summer.”

Perisset has a total of 34 caps for the French national team.

Perisset began her career at Lyon, where she won the French league and cup double four times and the Champions League in 2016.

After winning another French cup with Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, the 27-year-old transferred to Bordeaux in 2020.

Perisset has 34 caps for France since her debut in 2016, and she is part of her country’s roster for the Euros in England this summer.
