Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, is the object of Erik ten Hag’s obsession. (Image from Sky Sports) Erik ten Hag has stated that if Manchester United is unable to sign midfielder Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, he will make a promotion from inside the team.
The Red Devils are having difficulty persuading De Jong, a Dutch international, to leave Barca and join United this summer.
Although Manchester United and Barcelona have already reached an agreement for the 25-year-old, De Jong prefers to remain at the Nou Camp due to his friendship with former Ajax manager Ten Hag.
Ten Hag claims he could turn to his current squad to fill the post since United may be running out of time to convince De Jong to make the switch.
Ten Hag stated, “What I can say is that we’re searching for a guy that can play in the holding midfield position, but it needs to be the right one.”
There aren’t many people in that position who can perform at the level we require. When we can’t find him, we’ll deal with the players on our roster right now and train someone to fill that role. I won’t make any remarks about a specific player. We require the ideal player. We fit the criteria for the player who is qualified to play that role on the list. When the player becomes available, we’ll attack.

Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen were acquired by United earlier this month, and they have also reached an agreement with Ajax for Lisandro Martinez.
The Dutch manager stated, “The best and most ideal circumstance is when you start preseason with the team completely equipped, but most of the time that’s not the fact of football, so I am pragmatic and I have to deal with the fact.”
On Tuesday, Ten Hag’s Manchester United will play a match against Crystal Palace in Melbourne as part of their preseason schedule.
Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s request to leave Manchester United, Erik ten Hag makes an accusation about the player.
Victor Lindelof claims the new Manchester United recruit “looks really, really good” in training.
