Chelsea could see their record-breaking £85million transfer bid for Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana hijacked by Paris Saint-Germain, talkSPORT understands.

The Blues have been interested in the Foxes centre-back all summer, but the 2016 Premier League champions have been reluctant to let their young star go.

Chelsea believe Fofana is the type of player they need to take them to the next level

The west London club have bid twice for the defender, with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel looking to bolster his centre-back options following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Their last attempt saw the Blues have a £70million offer rejected by the Foxes.

Now, talkSPORT’s football correspondent Alex Crook has confirmed the Blues are readying a £85million bid for the 21-year-old Frenchman, which would be a world-record fee for a centre-back.

However, once again it might not be plain sailing for Chelsea in their bid to sign the defender.

Crook also revealed that Tuchel’s former club, French giants Paris Saint-Germain, are also monitoring Fofana.

And he believes the development means that Leicester’s star man is heading for the exit at the King Power this summer, only his destination is undecided.

Fofana played the full 90 minutes for Leicester in their draw against Brentford on Sunday

Should Fofana leave Leicester, it will leave Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers light on options at centre-back, with his side not recruiting a single player this summer.

Fofana started against Brentford alongside Jonny Evans and Daniel Amartey, with only out-of-form Caglar Soyuncu on the bench.

Meanwhile, if PSG do successfully swoop in one Chelsea’s bid and sign the youngster, Fofana will join a long list of players the Blues have missed out on this window, including Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt.
