Callum Hudson-Odoi has been persuaded by Glen Johnson to leave Chelsea. Getty Images/Sky Sports Glen Johnson has urged Callum Hudson-Odoi to sign with a different Premier League team this summer, saying the winger has to leave Chelsea.
Since making his first team debut for Chelsea in 2018, Hudson-Odoi has played more than 100 times, but he only started 11 of the 38 Premier League games played by the squad the previous year.
The 21-year-old has competition from players like Raheem Sterling, who recently signed for £50 million, as well as Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner.
Johnson, a former Chelsea defender, thinks Hudson-time Odoi’s at Stamford Bridge is running out and advises the England international to look into a transfer to Newcastle United.
Under Eddie Howe, the Magpies had a fantastic second half of the 2021–22 season, escaping the relegation zone and nearly finishing in the top half of the Premier League.
Johnson responded to BettingOdds when asked if Hudson-Odoi should look to leave Chelsea this summer: “I’m not sure.”
He goes through phases when he’s unplayable and then stretches where he plays like he has no business being in the Premier League.

“If he gets his act together, I think he has a lot to give, but to be honest, I think his days at Chelsea are finished.” Despite his youth, he still has a lot to learn in my opinion. He must play football each week, so he must travel to a place like Newcastle where he is forced to leave his comfort zone and concentrate on his game. Perhaps Newcastle will bring out his best. If he plays every week, a loan move might be successful. Chelsea won’t want to give him up lightly because he has a lot to offer; he might end up being another signing that they let go and then try to repurchase for £100 million in two years.
“It’s better than technically throwing everything away to let him go on a year’s loan, or even two years, to let him learn his craft where he’s playing every single week, and then call him back.”
Raheem Sterling’s transfer to Chelsea, according to Sergio Aguero, will leave Man City without him.
