Some refreshing candor.
Following Manchester United’s final game before the break, Bruno Fernandes spoke out brilliantly about the Qatar World Cup.
Fernandes will travel to Qatar as part of a very strong and exciting Portugal squad, but he has made it clear that he does not regard the tournament as the ideal international tournament.
He used his opportunity to speak on Sky Sports to discuss the deaths of those who helped build the stadiums in Qatar, as well as football-related issues.
Bruno Fernandes on the World Cup in Qatar
“This is not the time we want to be playing in the World Cup,” he explained.
“I don’t think it’s the best time for everyone, players and fans alike.” “Kids will be in school, people will be working, and the timings of the games will not be ideal.” We are aware of the World Cup’s surroundings, what has occurred in recent weeks and months, and the people who have died during stadium construction. That does not sit well with us.” We want football to be for everyone; everyone must be included and involved in a World Cup because it is the world.” It is for everyone, regardless of who. Such incidents, in my opinion, should never occur. But for a World Cup, it’s more than just football; it’s a party for fans and players, and it should be done better.”

🗣 “Of course, it’s odd; it’s not exactly the time we wanted to be playing in the World Cup.”

While many people agree with Fernandes, he is one of the most prominent footballers to speak out about the tournament, and doing so on Super Sunday is even more impressive.
Jamie Carragher praised the Manchester United midfielder on social media.
