TEHRAN– ABU/AM During the World Cup, spectators and travelers can also travel to Qatar by sea and through Bushehr, according to the official. According to the minister, many people want to visit Iran because of its historical attractions and ecotourism, to name a few. He stated that a number of plans and measures have been put in place in Bushehr to capitalize on the World Cup in Qatar, including strengthening the port infrastructure. Bushehr has long had commercial relations with Persian Gulf countries, which he believes should be revived and expanded even further. Zarghami proposed forming a committee to plan and coordinate ideas and maximize the World Cup’s capacity. The two countries discussed how to capitalize on the World Cup opportunity in Qatar to strengthen tourism, cultural heritage, and handicraft ties. Having the Qatar World Cup in a neighboring country and its proximity to Iran can be a good opportunity, particularly for the country’s southern regions. Zarghami also stated that there are nearly 300 Iranian handicrafts fields, with many of the items culturally close to Qatar, and that classes can be held to bring the experience of Iranian artists to Qatari artists. Bushehr province has more special conditions than other provinces because it is the closest to Qatar, with Dayyer port in Bushehr being 160 kilometers away from Qatar’s Al Ruwais port, according to the province’s governor. The Iranian government intends to issue a free visa to citizens whose national football teams qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, valid for two months and allowing for a 30-day stay. Because of the proximity of the two countries’ ports, Qatar can meet a portion of its needs through Dayyer port during the World Cup and the months leading up to and following it, according to Ahmad Mohammadizadeh, as quoted by Mehr on Sunday. Ezzatollah Zarghami, Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, and Abdulrahman bin Hamad bin Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar’s Minister of Culture and Sports, met in Tehran in May to discuss how to facilitate tourism during the World Cup. The Iranian media reported in April that the government was considering a visa-simplification procedure at the suggestion of its Foreign Ministry in order to attract spectators from neighboring Qatar, which is hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November and December.
