Jordan Jones’ fitness battle has taken a setback. The winger returned to Kilmarnock on loan from Wigan and made his Premier Sports Cup debut against Stenhousemuir. With one eye on the season opener against Dundee United, he lasted an hour before being replaced. However, the Northern Irishman suffered a thigh injury that has been bothering him since, and he will be scanned for the injury. “He played for an hour against Stenhousemuir and the plan was to get a few days’ training before the Dundee United game,” Killie manager McInnes said.

“On the Thursday before the game, he felt his thigh a little bit.” Thigh injuries must be treated with extreme caution because even minor irritation can lead to an eight-week absence. We were aware of Jordan’s injury and hoped he would be able to play at Ibrox or the Celtic game.” He worked out last week and got through the majority of it before feeling something in his thigh again. “We’re trying to let it settle before having it re-scanned.” It’s aggravating for him.” We could benefit from his speed, creativity, confidence, and quality. “We need to get him back as soon as possible.” McInnes admits Jones may have been suffering from a lack of playing time prior to leaving his parent club. “He wasn’t really given a proper pre-season programme at Wigan, and he probably didn’t get enough game time at the end of last season,” he explained. McInnes is also waiting to hear from defender Jeriel Dorsett, who was injured in Sunday’s 5-0 loss to Celtic. This week, the Reading loanee will undergo additional scans to rule out a ligament problem. In addition to Jones, Dorsett, and long-term injury victim Scott Robinson, McInnes will be without goalkeeper Zach Hemming for an extended period of time. However, the Killie manager admits that there has been good news regarding the 22-year-groin old’s injury. “Middlesbrough appear to think he could be back in full training within a month, so that is a massive boost,” he said. That is a few weeks ahead of schedule, so having him back would be a huge help.” Don’t miss out on the latest Ayrshire news by signing up for our free daily newsletter here.
