Christian Tello, a former Barcelona winger, ‘closes in on a move to LAFC from Real Betis’ in another MLS coup for the Western Conference leader. Cristian Tello, a free agent, could be on his way to MLS leaders LAFC soon. According to a Spanish report, the ex-Barcelona star could join within ‘hours.’ Tello allegedly had offers from within Europe but chose to gain experience in the United States. The former Spain international has also represented Porto and Fiorentina. Published: 21:23 EDT, August 19, 2022 | Updated: 21:23 EDT, August 19, 2022

According to reports, LAFC will sign former Barcelona prodigy Cristian Tello in the coming hours, despite having a nine-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference.

The 31-year-old Spaniard played for Real Betis before being released at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Tello is currently a free agent and could join the LAFC in ‘hours,’ according to reports. Cristian Tello appeared in 86 games for Barcelona, scoring 20 goals and assisting on 14 others. Tello was frequently linked with Europe’s elite while at Barcelona, including Liverpool and Arsenal. ‘Cristian Tello is also going to the MLS,’ tweeted Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti on Friday night. ‘The Catalan winger will join Bale’s Los Angeles FC in the coming hours.’ Former Betis player rejects European offers in favor of the exotic American experience.’ As previously stated, Tello will be working with former Real Madrid star and Welsh international Gareth Bale, who has made an immediate impact in the United States. Tello will look to light up the MLS, and at 31 years old, he has the potential to do so for many years to come. LAFC are dissatisfied despite having the best record in the league. They will be hoping Tello is more productive than he was with Betis last season, when he only had five goals and three assists in 35 games. The Los Angeles-based club has a comfortable lead with nine regular-season games remaining and appears to be on track for the Supporters Shield. From 2014 to 2016, the former Spanish international scored ten goals while on loan at Porto. Tello should provide depth on the wing and in attack as The Black and Gold prepare for an MLS playoff run. He could be a replacement for star midfielder Jose Cifuentes. In 24 MLS appearances, the Ecuadorian international has seven goals and six assists. Tello, along with Bale and Mexico international Carlos Vela, could form a lethal trident up top. Between 2011 and 2017, the Sabadell-born attacker played for Barcelona, before moving on to Porto and Fiorentina.
