Marc Roca, a midfielder for Bayern Munich, has joined Leeds United on a four-year agreement worth an initial £10 million.
The 25-year-old will join the club on July 1 and will remain there until summer 2026. Following the signings of Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson, he becomes the latest player to join the Whites at the start of next month.
The Spanish defensive midfielder began his career at RCD Espanyol, breaking into the first squad from the development system at the RCDE Stadium.
He represented Spain at U19 and U21 levels, starring for the latter and helping them win the 2019 European Football Championship.
As did his new Leeds United colleague Junior Firpo, he scored a goal in the semi-final against France and played 90 minutes in the 2-1 final victory against Germany.
Roca made his first appearance for Espanyol in a 2-2 La Liga tie with Malaga in August 2016. He went on to cement his place in the team, making a total of 25 appearances across all competitions for the remainder of the season.
Roca was signed by Bayern Munich on a five-year agreement in October 2020 after catching the eye over the next three seasons and appearing in 121 games for Espanyol. Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga twice and the FIFA Club World Cup once during his stint in Germany.
On Saturday, August 6, Leeds will kick off their 2022/23 Premier League campaign at Elland Road against Wolves.
Jesse Marsch’s team, who just avoided relegation on the final day of last season, will play Southampton at St Mary’s on August 13 before visiting Chelsea on August 20.
Leeds meet Manchester United at Old Trafford on September 17, and their penultimate game before the season ends for the winter World Cup is on November 12 against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham. They will then face Manchester City at home on Boxing Day.
On New Year’s Eve, they go to Newcastle, while Manchester United visits Elland Road on February 11.
Leeds face Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on May 28.
