Paris Saint-Germain has begun talks with Marcus Rashford’s representatives about a possible transfer to the Ligue 1 giants this month.
According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, PSG is looking to bolster its attack before the end of the summer transfer window and is interested in the Manchester United forward, who can play as a winger or as a central midfielder. The Premier League club has yet to hear from the Parisians about their interest in the player or any bid for him.
Dwaine Rashford, Rashford’s brother and representative, met with PSG in Paris last week to hold transfer talks, according to ESPN. The French club has long been interested in Rashford and is willing to offer him a large contract. They considered him as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe if he left for Real Madrid earlier this summer while Mauricio Pochettino was still manager.
There are conflicting reports from sources in England and France about the forward’s desire to stay or leave Manchester this summer. According to the Daily Mail and the Telegraph, Rashford prioritizes staying in Manchester and has made that clear to the club. According to French sources such as Santi Aouna, the forward wishes to join PSG.
Nonetheless, United is said to be unconcerned about the situation.
The contract of the 24-year-old forward with United expires in June 2023. The club has the option to add another year to the academy graduate’s contract, meaning he could have two years left on his current deal.
Rashford enters the 2022-23 season after a poor season in which he only managed five goals and two assists in 32 games across all competitions. He returned to his scoring ways during United’s preseason tour, scoring twice for Erik ten Hag’s side.
If the English international moves to Paris this summer, he will compete for a starting spot in the Parisian attack, which includes Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar. PSG’s current attacking options also include Mauro Icardi, Hugo Ekitiké (on loan from Reims), and Arnaud Kalimuendo, who is set to leave Parc des Princes this month.
Rashford’s potential departure from Old Trafford would deplete United’s already thin attacking options. The club continues its search to reinforce those positions before the transfer window closes on September 1.
