Nick Pope is the clear number two for England behind Jordan Pickford

Nick Pope was one of the few England players to take any credit from Friday’s defeat to Italy.
The Newcastle goalkeeper had no chance with the goal and was otherwise performing admirably.
Indeed, when it came to rating the England players in the 1-0 defeat, BBC Sport viewers ranked only Jude Bellingham ahead of Nick Pope.

Pope has been outstanding for Newcastle United since joining in the summer, and he now has a record for England of nine games played and eight wins, with only this Italy defeat tarnishing his perfect record. In terms of goals, Friday night’s goal from Italy was only the second in Nick Pope’s nine appearances.
England will play Iran in their first World Cup group game in exactly eight weeks, and Nick Pope will be hoping for another chance tonight, when England plays Germany away. Aaron Ramsdale, on the other hand, is expected to be the biggest threat to Pope if Pickford is unavailable when the action begins in Qatar.
Jordan Pickford is currently out of action due to injury, and the clock is ticking on when he will be able to return.
Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson has rated the goalkeeping candidates and has picked Pickford as his first choice, followed by Nick Pope, Aaron Ramsdale, and Dean Henderson.
“He (Nick Pope) makes saves around him, he adapts himself,” Paul Robinson told Football Daily of Nick Pope.
He doesn’t have to get down on his knees and make saves with his feet. He’s incredible one on one.” “Having known him personally, if England are in a semi-final and Jordan Pickford is injured, you have to have somebody on the bench with the temperament that you can rely on, and he (Nick Pope) definitely has that.” Eddie Howe has mentioned him in the locker room, and he is a great character to have. He is amusing, but he is also serious at times, and he has the mentality that nothing bothers him.
“If he comes for a cross and misses it, he will come again.”
So, in my opinion, he has established himself as England’s clear number two (behind Pickford).”
“The thing that is always thrown at him (Nick Pope) is his distribution, is that fair?” says the host.
“It is something that Nick has worked very hard on, and I think with him and Ramsdale it’s a thing that yes, they are behind Jordan on that, but I think it’s unfair on Jordan Pickford to say he is only in the team because he is better with his feet,” says Paul Robinson.
