Nottingham Forest are among the clubs interested in signing Middlesbrough winger Marcus Tavernier.

Marcus Tavernier, the brother of Rangers captain James Tavernier, has drawn a £10 million transfer bid from Nottingham Forest and could leave Middlesbrough. According to the Daily Mail, Bournemouth and other newly promoted teams in the English Premier League are competing for the Boro winger’s services at the City Ground. Tavernier attracted attention after finishing the previous season’s Championship with five goals and the same number of assists. Although the 22-year-current old’s deal still has two years left, he is anticipated to quit the team in the upcoming weeks. The former England Under-20 international, who can play on either side of the wing or behind the striker, is seen by Forest as the perfect substitute for forward Joe Lolley, who has been considered surplus to requirements. Tavernier would team up with former Rangers stopper Joe Worrall if Reds manager Steve Cooper were to prevail in the competition for his signature. The defender played alongside James throughout the 2018–19 season while on loan at Ibrox. Scott Parker, the manager of Bournemouth, is thought to also be interested in the lightning-quick talent. Leeds-born Tavernier has played his whole career for Middlesbrough, save for a brief loan with MK Dons. He previously described how, after being released from Newcastle United as a 14-year-old, he turned down a move to Rangers. He said: “Funnily enough, Rangers actually called me and asked me to go there when I was on my six-week trial at Boro. James may have arrived before me! Though Middlesbrough was so near to home and I enjoyed everything about the club, I had originally intended to travel up to Glasgow. I had no idea how huge the Rangers were back then. Before my brother went there, I actually knew nothing about them. When he signed and I walked up to see him, it really made me realize how big that club was.
