Nottingham Forest are close to signing Cheikhou Kouyate

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are in advanced talks to sign former Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate. The Reds were linked to the player over the weekend, and a deal appears to be in the works.

Kouyate’s contract with Palace expired at the end of last season. He is now a free agent, and the 32-year-old is rumored to be interested in joining Forest before the transfer window closes next month.

The seasoned Premier League midfielder has extensive experience. He played 141 times for Palace and 147 times for West Ham before joining them.

Kouyate has also made 82 appearances for Senegal. He had the most memorable moment of his career earlier this year when he assisted his country in winning the African Cup of Nations.

Kouyate is now looking for a new club and may be able to stay in the Premier League. Forest were defeated 2-0 by Newcastle on Saturday, highlighting the need for more players.

Last season, the tough-tackling midfielder was a regular under Patrick Vieira. He appeared in 31 games for the Eagles, assisting them to a 12th-place finish.

Former teammate Scott Dann previously described Kouyate as a “top player,” and he’d be a welcome addition to Forest’s midfield engine room.

Forest is in advanced talks to sign Kouyate, and there’s a lot to like about him.

Consider Samba Sow, but more robust, less prone to injury, and oozing a little more class on the ball. That will take you to Kouyate, and Forest would be wise to complete this task.

The midfield warrior would be an excellent addition to the squad. He’d add some steel to the midfield ranks as well as some strong positional sense.

On Saturday, Forest were outplayed in midfield, which Cooper will not have overlooked. Kouyate has now been identified, and this one may be close.

If this deal goes through, the Reds will most likely be done in the midfield. This summer has already seen the signings of Lewis O’Brien and Orel Mangala, with Ryan Yates set to return from injury. Do you have anything to say about this article?
