PSG have joined Chelsea in the race to sign Leicester defender Wesley Fofana after the Foxes turned down a £70 million bid from their Premier League rivals. Paris Saint-Germain may try to derail Chelsea’s plans to sign Wesley Fofana. Chelsea previously had two bids for the 21-year-old centre-back rejected. PSG has reportedly joined Chelsea in the pursuit of Leicester defender Wesley Fofana.
The Blues have had two bids for the 21-year-old rejected, the most recent of which was for £70 million.
However, according to Le Parisien, PSG could derail Chelsea’s plans to sign the centre-back. Chelsea may face competition during the transfer window to sign Leicester defender Wesley Fofana. Paris Saint-Germain are considering a move for Leicester City’s 21-year-old Frenchman. Chelsea have already lost a number of players this summer, including another center-back in Jules Kounde, who joined Barcelona from Sevilla. As the Blues have discovered, convincing the Ligue 1 champions to sell their star defender may require a massive bid. Last week, Brendan Rodgers stated three times that the defender was not for sale. The Leicester manager has met with the French U21 international in an attempt to persuade him to stay at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes turned down a £60 million bid for Fofana before rejecting a £70 million bid on Friday. Thomas Tuchel wants to bring in another center-back before the transfer window closes. Chelsea already missed out on signing Jules Kounde, who chose to join Barcelona. Sportsmail previously reported that Leicester is concerned that a bid in excess of the £80 million paid by Manchester United for Harry Maguire would be too good to turn down. To fund Rodgers’ spending plans, Leicester must sell players this summer, and their next set of accounts is expected to show a significant loss. Their inability to sell fringe players has made them more vulnerable to approaches for star players, and the club has turned down two bids for attacking midfielder James Maddison, the second of around £40 million, while they are willing to sell Youri Tielemans, who is in the final year of his contract. If Fofana joins PSG, he will face competition from the likes of Presnel Kimpembe (pictured). Newcastle have also inquired about winger Harvey Barnes, who is worth more than £60 million. Chelsea’s current priority is to strengthen their defense after losing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer. Kalidou Koulibaly was signed from Napoli, and Marc Cucurella was signed from Brighton just a few weeks ago.
Fofana would have to compete for a starting spot at PSG with the likes of Presnel Kimpembe, Marquinhos, and Sergio Ramos.
