Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, acknowledged that he “misses” the midfielder at Anfield, and Georginio Wijnaldum appears destined to depart Paris Saint-Germain after just one season. After being excluded from Paris Saint-preseason Germain’s tour of Japan, Georginio Wijnaldum’s status is likely to be under Jurgen Klopp’s watch at Liverpool. The midfielder for the Netherlands left Anfield as a free agent after his contract with the team ran out last summer, but his time in Paris has been called a “horror.” The move of Wijnaldum from the Reds has not gone as expected, and he even acknowledged in the past campaign that he was not “totally pleased” in Paris after his arrival. While other sources suggested that PSG’s South American contingent, lead by Lionel Messi, did not get along with Wijnaldum during the club’s training session, one French media site even harshly dubbed him the “Ligue 1 Flop of the Year.” Wijnaldum scored just one goal at home for Mauricio Pochettino’s team last season while starting less than half of PSG’s 38 Ligue 1 games. He also did not participate in the club’s Champions League knockout rounds because they lost to Real Madrid. Since he was unable to join the team on its preseason tour of the Far East, the 31-year-declining old’s status at the club has been further highlighted. This is the clearest sign to yet that the former Newcastle midfielder is not in Christophe Galtier’s plans as PSG’s new manager. Wijnaldum joined Liverpool in the first summer transfer window under Klopp. He was signed from Newcastle, who had just been relegated, and quickly established himself as a key player in the first team. Over the course of five seasons, he made 237 appearances for the Reds, scoring 22 goals. Have Your Say! Should Liverpool think about re-signing Wijnaldum? Give us your thoughts on this.

In October, Klopp said that the midfielder was “truly missed” from the team: “Even when we train for a team like Chelsea, Gini can be seen roaming about in our games against them. Still, we need to adjust to that. We mourn him not just on the field; we miss him terribly in the locker room as well.” During his time at Anfield, Wijnaldum assisted the Reds in winning the Premier League and the Champions League. In late 2021, he spoke with reporters and said: “Since the circumstances are not what I wanted, I can’t say that I’m entirely content. But that’s football, so I’ll just have to get used to it. I like to battle. To change things, I must maintain my optimism and put in a lot of effort.” Wijnaldum’s involvement would be further restricted by the summer arrival of midfielder Vitinha at PSG and the projected signing of Renato Sanches from Lille, and he is now generally likely to leave the Parc des Princes after only one season.
