Doha: The healthcare sector is prepared to play a critical role in ensuring the success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 by providing a comprehensive range of services throughout the tournament.
According to healthcare leaders, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) will also implement proactive measures to ensure participants’ health and safety.
In a series of tweets on its official account, the Ministry emphasized how well-prepared the health sector is for the World Cup.
“The Ministry of Public Health is honored to play a role in ensuring the success of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.” We will provide a comprehensive range of healthcare services throughout the tournament in collaboration with our partners in Qatar’s healthcare sector, as well as the World Health Organization, FIFA, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy,” said Assistant Minister for Health Affairs at MoPH, H E Dr. Salih Al Marri.
“The Ministry’s role also focuses on protecting the health and safety of all World Cup participants and attendees by implementing proactive health and safety measures such as food safety, health surveillance, COVID-19 protocols, and the regulation and licensing of facilities and health professionals,” he added.
Dr. Yousef Al Maslamani, the World Cup’s official healthcare spokesperson and Medical Director of Hamad General Hospital, stated that the healthcare sector is prepared to meet the anticipated demand for services throughout the tournament.
“Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) healthcare teams will collaborate with healthcare partners to provide medical services across a variety of venues, including stadiums, fan zones and fan villages, training fields, and hotels.” “Our Ambulance Service and emergency teams will also play an important role throughout the tournament, meeting an expected demand for services due to the influx of visitors in November and December,” Dr. Al Maslamani said.
According to Dr. Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla, Executive Director of Operations at Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), healthcare teams at the Corporation are honored to support Qatar’s World Cup hosting.
“Our recent expansion of primary healthcare services, including the opening of multiple new advanced health centers,” she said, “will ensure we are able to provide medical care to visiting fans, including through our eight urgent care clinics, while also continuing to provide routine and specialist primary care services to Qatar’s local population.”
Ali Abdulla Al Khater, Chair of the Supreme Healthcare Communications Committee and Chief of Corporate Communications at HMC, stated that the communications teams at the Ministry, HMC, and PHCC are working together to ensure that everyone attending Qatar 2022 is aware of the range of healthcare services available to them.
“As part of our partnership, ‘Healthy FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Creating a Legacy for Sport and Health,’ we are also working closely with communications teams at the World Health Organization, FIFA, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy to promote healthy lifestyles and ensure a safe World Cup experience for all,” he said.
