Romelu Lukaku could be on his way back to Inter Milan

Chelsea are reportedly willing to release out-of-favor players. Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku spent two seasons on loan at Inter Milan in Serie A. According to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea will be content for Romelu Lukaku to spend two seasons on loan at Inter Milan. The former out-of-favour Belgian forward has signed a one-year contract with the Serie A giants, just a season after leaving them to join the Blues. Lukaku returned to Chelsea last season to much fanfare, with the Belgian international expected to take over the attacking mantle for Thomas Tuchel’s side. However, neither the club nor the striker’s plans went as planned. Tuchel was unable to fit the 28-year-old into his plans, and the player quickly became dissatisfied with his situation at the west London club. Lukaku scored eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances for Chelsea as he was largely kept out of the starting lineup in the second half of the season. The reduction in game time could also be attributed to Lukaku openly questioning the German tactician’s system in an explosive interview with Sky Italia last December. During the same conversation, he mentioned his time at Inter Milan and how much he was admired by the club’s fans. How will Lukaku fare in his second stint at Inter? Lukaku eventually returned to the Nerazzurri on a year’s loan after a brilliant two-year spell under Antonio Conte from 2019 to 2021. Lukaku scored 64 goals for Inter Milan in two seasons, helping them win the Scudetto in 2020/21. Inter reportedly paid £7 million for the striker on a one-year contract, and according to the report, Chelsea are willing to let them keep Lukaku for another season if similar terms are met. If he picks up where he left off last season, Inter could sign him on a permanent basis.
