Stan Kroenke approves Arsenal move for Bayer Leverkusen forward

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has given the club permission to pursue a £60 million deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Moussa Diaby. The Gunners began their Premier League season with a convincing victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, with new signing Oleksandr Zinchenko playing a key role in the opening goal. Last month, Zinchenko became Arsenal’s fifth summer signing, joining Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, and Marquinhos at the Emirates Stadium. Manager Mikel Arteta has made it clear that he wants to strengthen his squad before the transfer deadline, with a central midfielder and winger thought to be on Edu’s wish list. understands Arsenal are interested in Dutch talent Cody Gakpo, but Kroenke is said to have approved a move for Diaby instead. As Takehiro Tomiyasu makes a comeback, Mikel Arteta has a’mystery winger’ to save Arsenal millions. Arsenal are reportedly working on a deal to sign Diaby, with Arteta eager to add the France international to his attacking options. The Gunners have expressed an interest in completing one or two more deals before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Leverkusen are thought to value the 23-year-old at around £60 million, which could be a stumbling block for the Gunners if they want to sign Diaby. Another issue for Arsenal is that they are unable to offer Champions League football after finishing fourth last season. Diaby recently stated that “I’ve made my decision and will play for Bayer Leverkusen again next season.” The French forward turned down an approach from Newcastle earlier in the transfer window in order to stay in the Bundesliga, with Leverkusen set to compete in the Champions League this season. Arteta discussed Arsenal’s transfer strategy ahead of the final few weeks of the transfer window with Sky Sports after the win over Palace. According to the Spaniard: “We’ll give it a shot. There are still things we want to do, and it would be fantastic if we could.” READ NEXT: Arsenal vs. Crystal Palace player ratings: Saliba shines, Ramsdale impresses, but White falters Arsenal transfers and news LIVE: The latest news and rumors from Emirates Stadium.
