What will Gareth Bale’s future role be? There will be a long list of names linked to the Wales winger, who is looking for a new club in order to be fit for the World Cup in Qatar. Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are all keeping tabs on the former Real Madrid midfielder.

The free transfer of James Tarkowski to Everton is complete, but he will not be seen waving a club scarf aloft until the end of the month, giving everyone something to look forward to – except Burnley fans.

Manchester United is on the verge of kicking off their summer transfer operations. They are favourites to sign Vitinha from Porto, bolstered by the fact that his contract stipulates that he can exit stage right for €40 million (£34 million). Arsenal is also rumored to be interested in the Portugal international.

Manchester City will spend the summer trying to acquire Kalvin Phillips from Leeds to replace Fernandinho in midfield. The England international is attempting to expedite the process by telling his bosses that he wants out in order to complete a £50 million deal with the Premier League champions.

Juventus and Chelsea are rumored to be working on a swap deal. The Italian club is willing to part with Merih Demiral as well as some cash in the hopes of persuading the Blues to send Jorginho in the opposite direction.

Marco Asensio is not too happy with Real Madrid over contract negotiations because he wants a pay rise as he heads into the final year of his deal. Arsenal may be able to jump in with a hefty offer to lure him to the Premier League as a result of the stalling. He could also be using the Gunners to achieve what he wants in Madrid.

Aaron Hickey’s arrival from Bologna is a more likely Arsenal deal. The 20-year-old would cost £21 million and would battle for a starting spot in defence with compatriot Kieran Tierney.

David Moyes wants James Ward-Prowse, aka Mr Free Kicks, to take over as the heartbeat of the West Ham midfield from Mark Noble. Newcastle might potentially make a bid for Southampton’s midfielder.

One of Manchester City’s many youngsters, Gavin Bazunu, is on his way to Southampton in a £12m move, with a few add-ons chucked in for good measure. Last season, the goalie spent League One with Portsmouth (don’t tell Saints supporters). Sam Johnstone, another goalkeeper on the move, will join Crystal Palace on a free transfer after his West Brom contract expires.
