No. 2 ex-Manchester United Carlos Queiroz has been named manager of Iran’s national team ahead of the country’s participation in the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Queiroz, overjoyed, took to his official Twitter account to confirm the news.
“When the family calls, all you have to do is show up.”
“You are fully committed to your responsibilities and prepared for the Mission.”
“Lads, let’s do it together!” “Onward and upward!”

In two stints as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant, the 69-year-old effectively served as the legendary manager’s right-hand man.
Queiroz won two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy during his time at United.
The highly successful Portuguese also went on to coach Real Madrid, one of the world’s most powerful football clubs, for a single season.
The former Manchester United no. 2 replaces Dragan Skocic, who was fired by Iran in July after failing to rein in indiscipline in the dressing room.
Queiroz will lead his team to Qatar, where they will compete in the group stages of football’s most prestigious competition against the United States, England, and Wales.
He has also coached other national teams, including his native Portugal, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, and Egypt.
The 2022 World Cup will be Queiroz’s third as Iran’s coach, following the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. In both cases, his team failed to advance beyond the group stage.
