The USA men were stunned by Iran in Bulgaria on Thursday, getting swept as they took their first loss in Volleyball Nations League.

After losing by scores of 25-18, 29-27, and 27-25 and dropping to 5-1 in VNL play, the Americans get Friday off. On Saturday, they will face Bulgaria once again.

This is the first time we’ve noticed exhaustion after six matches, according to USA coach John Speraw, who spoke to USA Volleyball.

“Neither on offense nor defense, we were as proficient as we needed to be. We anticipate tomorrow being a day off so that we can play better against Bulgaria.

With 13 kills, TJ DeFalco had the most followed by Kyle Ensing with 11 and Jeff Jendryk with 5 kills and 2 blocks. Thomas Jaeschke and Kyle Dagostino both had three digs.

Amin Esmaeilnezhad of Iran had 19 victories.

The USA finishes the second leg of the VNL against Poland before taking a break after playing Bulgaria.

On Thursday, Brazil defeated Serbia and Poland swept China.

Slovenia defeated Argentina in four games, but there was significant controversy in Quezon City, Philippines.

Germany was given a sweep by China because they didn’t want to play. Germany demanded that the China squad be retested after many of them tested positive for COVID.

Associated Press quote:

21 members of the Chinese delegation tested positive on Saturday, according to the German volleyball organization. Before consenting to participate, it requested more PCR tests on the Chinese players, but the organizers deferred to local health restrictions, according to the federation.

Due to the viral instances, China had to forfeit their match against France on Wednesday.

As games continue in the Philippines through Sunday, China will play Argentina on Friday.

The VNL assertion:

The men’s volleyball match between China and Germany scheduled for June 23 has been postponed because Germany declined to compete against China despite Chinese athletes being allowed to leave isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

Therefore, it has been verified by the FIVB and Volleyball World that Germany immediately forfeits the game in accordance with the VNL 2022 Competition Regulations, giving China a 3-0 victory.

The FIVB and Volleyball World apologize for any trouble the cancellation may have caused the competitors, officials, spectators, and supporters around the world.
