With less than three weeks until the start of the Premier League season, Brendan Rodgers was open regarding the future of Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans, whose contract expires in 2023. The future of Youri Tielemans with Leicester is uncertain. Despite interest from Manchester United and Arsenal, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Leicester are still not close to reaching a new contract agreement with Youri Tielemans. The 25-year-old could be released by the Foxes this summer for about £25 million with one year remaining on his contract. Although it is believed that Tielemans is hesitant to commit his future to the team, Leicester wants him to sign a new contract. As a result, while Arsenal are apparently dominating the race to sign him this summer, the Foxes run the risk of losing Tielemans for nothing next summer. The Gunners have already added midfielder Fabio Viera for £35 million, but Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in Tielemans to give them more choices and talent in that position. United has meanwhile joined the competition as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his midfield further following the acquisition of Christian Eriksen last week. Frenkie de Jong is the top transfer target for the Red Devils, but the Dutchman would want to stay at Barcelona. When questioned about the status of Tielemans’ contract talks with Leicester, Rodgers responded, “There has been absolutely no news. He’s a fantastic colleague. He recently re-joined the team [for pre-season], and he hasn’t changed much. He is really dedicated to his training. Both at work and at the club, he is content. But it makes sense that with a year left on his contract, he could feel pressured to consider everything for himself and his family. However, I am positive that while he is here, he is devoted. Next week, Youri and I will have a wonderful conversation to learn more about his thoughts. But regardless of whether he leaves or stays for another five years, he will remain extremely committed. Will Youri Tielemans remain at Leicester at least through the upcoming summer? Tell us in the comments section below!

When asked if Leicester would accept Tielemans leaving on his own terms if his contract expired, Rodgers said, “I’m not sure. If it occurs, it indicates that either there hasn’t been an offer or there hasn’t been one that is acceptable. The truth is that. Youri will continue to train and work, in his opinion. He is highly committed to getting physically strong and, as he always is with the club, he is a fantastic teammate. I will do everything in my power to continue building him and the team up until that changes. Although we must wait and see, there is a chance. Following his £32 million transfer from Monaco to the Foxes in 2019, Tielemans has made more than 150 appearances for the team. During his time at Leicester, he has scored numerous significant goals, notably the winning goal against Chelsea in the FA Cup final the previous year. Learn More
